Last week, Nate and I stopped by the new Tio Pepe Chicken for a quick weekday lunch. Tio Pepe is the new Portuguese grill at The Linc in central Austin, and after my friend Monique raved about it, I knew I wanted to check it out!
East coasters: have you ever eaten at Nando’s? This is a similar concept.
Quick facts:
- It’s owned by and named after Pepe Garcia, an Austinite who comes from a long line of successful restauranteurs.
- They offer Portuguese-style chicken, grilled over an open flame.
- There are 6 types of sauce available in varying levels of spice, all made from the Peri Peri, a pepper used in Portuguese cooking.
- It’s located at The Linc, the newly renovated restaurant and retail are in central/north Austin.
^ I ordered a whole chicken with two sides (roasted corn, and brocolli/cauliflower). I tried two sauces: medium, and hot. (I also got some garlic sauce to try on the side!)
^ They have the Stubborn soda machine from Pepsi, which offers unexpected flavors like Agave Vanilla Cream Soda and Lemon Berry Acai made with cane sugar and stevia and no high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. I was wayyy too excited about that tap handles!
