My husband has learned better than to ask “what did you do on your girls weekend?” because he knows now: we talk. When four moms get a quick 24-hour getaway together without any toddlers or babies in tow, we will utilize every single moment and actually talk. No interruptions. No one calling “mommyyyy!!!!”. No one asking for anything. Bliss! This trip actually reminded me of that very quick trip I took to Chicago last year to see my college girlfriends. I came home and Nate was like, “what did you do? What restaurants did you try? Where did y’all go?” and I was like, “babe, we sat around and drank chai and talked for hours and hours.” Haha.)
My friend was so sweet to invite us all out to her lake house for an overnight stay.
Snacks? Check. Listen, if you get four moms of toddlers together, you will 100% not be lacking in the snacks department. We all know snacks!
We plopped our stuff down, immediately poured a drinks, and…
Headed to the deck to enjoy the lakeside views!
Snacks on snacks on snacks. Priya’s homemade mango salsa was the real winner.
A yummy roasted salmon dinner enjoyed outside (not pictured) with a few hours of talking, followed by an evening in the hot dub with a few bottles of wine (plus more talking…surprise!)
And in the morning we slept in, drank coffee, sat on the patio, and…talked. Haha. Honestly, do I need to keep writing this blog post anymore? I think you get the gist. 😉
We thought about going to a local diner for breakfast, but we all just wanted to stay in loungewear and drink coffee and hang out, so we made some breakfast tacos at home and enjoyed a lazy morning.
Although we’ve known one another for several years and we’re all in the same stage of life (married with young kids at home, juggling some variation of a work/life balance), this was one of the first times we’ve been able to have this much time together to just hang out. It’s so rare, and it’s so magical.
Anyway, I’m feeling so thankful for these girls in my life and the friendship we get to have. I remember writing about the loneliness of motherhood during the pandemic. It was back when I was a brand new mom, the world had shut down, and I just felt so alone. Fast forward through a move and three years of life, and my friendship circle is rich. This weekend was legitimately fuel for my soul! Muah!
Love this and you friend! So so glad we got this time together!
