Friday Five {4/14/23}

Nido Austin

Happy Friday! Friends: I am feeling sooo happy right now. Seriously amazing. I just feel like I have so many great things going on in life…some that I’ll share with you in the very near future, and some that are just current-day wonderfulness that’s going on.

Here are five little things that are making me happy today:

1. These San Antonio Wine Bars

Little Death Wine Bar

Gahhh! How adorable is this industrial wine bar in San Antonio?

I just finished writing up 9 amazing wine bars in San Antonio, and I had so much fun visiting them. I want to go back to them again and again.

Give me a beautiful wine bar, a great bottle of wine, a friend or two to share it with, and a few hours of unobstructed time, and I’m in my happy place.

Please use this guide whenever you need to find some excellent wine bars in San Antonio. Cheers!

2. A gratitude trick

This is a bit random, I know. But it’s a thing I’ve been doing that’s really been working for me.

Y’all know I read a lot of self development books, listen to podcast, and I looove my gratitude journal practice.

(And I can’t remember where I heard this idea…sorry!)

The idea is to picture yourself in ten years, and notice the things that your future self feels thankful for.

Example: 42-year-old Kelsey thinks that 32-year-old Kelsey is so lucky to get to snuggle those soft, squishy, adorable toddlers.

She’s a bit envious of 32-year-old Kelsey’s skin. And metabolism.

She thinks it’s wonderful that, at 32-years-old, Kelsey still has weekends and doesn’t spend the days in the car driving around to sporting events and competitions.

It’s a small thing, I know. But it just helps me to stop and feel so thankful for the little, mundane, everyday things going on in my life right now.

3. This rooftop Austin restaurant

I haven’t been to a new Austin restaurant with a view this good in a long time!

Nido is on the south side of the lake, so when you’re dining on the 8th floor you get an unobstructed view of the skyline.

Caitlin and I shared the crudo (AMAZING!) and burrata, and I got the lobster roll as my entree. Delicious.

4. Birria Tacos

It’s been a moment since I went on my crazy birria in Austin kick, and since then there have been some new birria spots to open up in town.

While my friend dMonique and I were at Lulu’s bar in south Austin on a friend date, we noticed that the taco truck outside (some of the BEST tacos in my opinion) has birria on the menu.

So we had to order them. Duh.

The homemade blue corn tortillas are griddled to a perfectly crunchy texture, and it’s full of the most scrumptious barbacao and tons of gooey-gooey melted cheese.

The consomé was so delicious that I legitimately drank the cup like I was sipping bone broth. I didn’t want to waste a single drop.

5. New Running Socks

A pair of the world’s greatest running socks. Because comfortable, supported feet = a healthy and happy self. And these are the things that bring me soooo much joy these days. 🙂

XO! Have a wonderful weekend. I’m off to a waterpark for Milo’s friends joint birthday party, and then then I’m running the Cap10K on Sunday morning in downtown Austin. Can’t wait!
