Hi friends! I’m leaving town today for a week of vacation on the beach, so yesterday Nate and I went to one last brunch together before parting ways for the next 8 days. (He sadly, is not invited on this trip…it’s #girlsonly!)
We went to Il Brutto to check out the new brunch service. I’ve visited Il Brutto 4 times since they launched in the spring, and I’ve been thrilled with it every time! I adore the neapolitan pizza baked in a wood-fired oven, the Italian cocktails, and the sprawling shaded patio overlooking E 6th street.
I’d heard through the foodie grapevine that they were hopefully going to launch a weekend brunch once they got going, and I’m thrilled that it’s finally here.
Il Brutto is from the New Waterloo team (Sway, La Condesa, all the restaurants at the South Congress Hotel, La Matta, Le Politique), and I’m a fan of basically everything they do. Design is a big component of all of their restaurants. Every space, including Il Brutto, is dazzling.
(You know how I always check? I go look at the way they’ve designed the bathrooms. Ha! Anyone else do this, too? I love checking out the bathroom fixtures, wallpaper, and floors whenever I eat out.)
The food has “wowed” me every time, whether brunch, happy hour, or dinner. I adore their Italian cocktail program; I love starting a dinner with a negroni. This time at brunch, I tried a brunch cocktail made with aperol, limoncello, and orange juice. Beautiful, fresh, strong!
Brunch served Sat-Sun, 11am-3pm
1601 E 6th St
I had a restaurant owner tell me once that the key to success was making the bathrooms nice & putting hooks under the bar because it would make female patrons happy and they’d want to come back. And it’s true. What I want is hooks under the bar & a bathroom that doesn’t make me feel gross.
