So Much Life Blog on KXAN

Good morning, friends!

Last Friday, I did a quick segment on KXAN, our local NBC channel here in Austin. I chatted with Rosie Newberry on Studio 512 about Austin Food Crawls and 5 of my favorite restaurants from my new book, Austin Food Crawls

You can watch the segment right here!

If you’re new to Austin or visiting soon, this quick 4 minute segment will give you a few ideas of some fun restaurants to add to your list!

I’ve been doing podcast, magazine, and tv interviews over the past week to promote my book, and I have a few more interviews coming up later in September.

In the spirit of full honesty, I’ll tell you this: this part of the gig doesn’t come naturally to me! I love photography, writing, and social media….but public speaking makes me sweat. Whether I’m being interviewed on a podcast, in front of a camera, or just speaking to a group of people, my voice always starts off with some shakiness and I feel nerves.

I woke up at 5:45 am for my KXAN time slot thinking, “I really don’t feel like doing this.” Of course, when it’s all said and done, I’m so thankful I got to have this interview! But the night before, I felt some nerves.

I felt nervous about saying something dumb. I felt nervous about being on camera 8 months pregnant and looking like a whale. I felt nervous knowing that my voice WILL shake a bit at the beginning of the segment.

The most incredible thing that I have realized is that nerves are just a feeling, and I can handle any feeling. Sure, my voice my shake a bit, and people might notice that and think, “dang, this girl is not a natural at public speaking…she seems so nervous!” And someone else might think that I look very large, puffy pregnant woman. And if people think those things about me, I don’t have to let their thoughts or opinions bother me in the slightest.

Aaaand AND AND AND…every single time I do something that pushes me out of my comfort zone (like an interview), I get a little bit better at it. 😉

Ok, that’s it for today. Just a little pep talk in case you’re in a similar situation on this Monday morning and you have to do something that you’d rather not do.

I’ll be back later this week to chat with you. Happy (almost) fall, friends!
