Hello hello! Today is DAY ONE of our kitchen renovation, so I’m all kinds of excited over here. The design process is complete and the contractor and his team are officially ripping our kitchen apart to make space for the new cabinets, counters, and appliances. It’s feeling a bit surreal that we’re actually doing this!
Today’s post is slightly mundane, but it serves an important purpose: to have a bench mark for the beginning of this big project. This way, in the future when I’m sharing all the photos and experiences in our beautiful shiny new kitchen, I’ll be able to point back and say, “remember when it looked like THIS?!” And so here are all the kitchen renovation before pictures.
When Nate and I sold our Bouldin Creek home in 2020 and moved a bit further from downtown, we fell in love with our new lot, the home layout, and neighborhood, our wonderful neighbors, and the location. But the house itself had a lot of things we wanted to change, and the kitchen was the biggest one.
We put off the kitchen remodel for 3 years (it was on the 5 year plan, so I’m happy we’re getting to it at year 3!) while we lived in the space, saved money, and thought about what we’d want to include in our dream kitchen. And I’m so glad we waited, because the remodel we would have done right when we moved is totally different than what we’re doing now! A few years of living in the space helped us find our pain points and figure out our dreams and lifestyle, and now I feel really confident in the kitchen that tour designer helped us create.
We started working with the design team a few months ago (we’re using Dwellify for this entire process, btw. They’ve been a dream thus far!), but today is when the really fun part begins: the actual work in my kitchen!!

Like I said, it’s nothing all that flashy or exciting today. This isn’t anything you haven’t already seen! But I wanted to have a marker on my blog for the first day of this project! A kitchen renovation is a really big deal to me – I definitely don’t plant on doing this more than once. Nate and I have dreamed and talked and planned and saved, and I am so very thankful that this is actually beginning now.
