We made it! It’s Friday!

I’m always on the hunt for great happy hours in Austin, and I rarely (maybe never?) get tired of Tex-Mex, so I was pumped to check out Cyclone Anaya’s Tex-Mex Cantina at the Domain with Rachel! We got there early enough to check out the happy hour, then we stayed for dinner. Ooof. I had such a food baby at the end of this delicious meal.

{Psst: click here to see all of the Austin happy hour posts I’ve ever written!}

The jumbo margaritas are what make this place extra fun, in my opinion! They’re giant and strong! They’re $5 off during happy hour, too!

Other good things to note before you scroll past all these delicious photos:

  • Lots of ingredients are sourced locally. Cyclone Anaya’s does their best to start with high quality, responsible ingredients. Tex-Mex isn’t fancy food, but when it’s made well with great ingredients, it can be one of my favorite things to eat on a Friday night.
  • The flour tortillas are homemade. Even before they told me this, I could tell! One bite of those fish tacos, and I looked at Rachel and said, “these tortillas are homemade!!”
  • Happy hour starts at 11 am. Ha! What the what? There ya go, my friends.

I’m already feeling hungry for some Tex Mex again after looking at these pics, ha!

Here are some of the  dinner items we tried:

  • Guacamole
  • Texas Queso – chile con queso made with local white cheese
  • Seafood Ceviche – lime and herb-cured seafood served with avocado and crispy plantains
  • Nachos – corn tortilla chips topped with smashed beans, melted cheese and beef fajita or chicken fajita. Served with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and jalapeños. (These were just so dang good. Classic Tex-Mex and a must order item)
  • Fish Tacos – grilled or crispy fish, pico de gallo and chunks of avocado. Served with spicy coleslaw and cilantro lime dressing
  • Rotisserie Chicken -served with chipotle smashed potatoes and roasted corn on the cob. (FAVORITE! They also use this chicken in their enchiladas!)
  • ATX Loop Burrito – a large homemade flour tortilla filled with smashed beans, Carne Guisada, pico de gallo and melted Mexican white cheese rolled and topped with our homemade chili con carne, Texas Queso, guacamole and sliced jalapenos. (This one is massive! So tasty, and big enough to share.)
  • Tres Leches Cake

Hope you are ready for a wonderful weekend! I’ve spent the last few days in DC visiting one of my college friends. I’ve definitely been guilty of letting certain friendship slip away as we move to different parts of the country, but as I get into my late twenties, I’m realizing how important it is to work on these friendships so I can keep certain people in my life.

Heading home to Austin on Saturday…I always love traveling, but I love coming back home!
