I was in San Antonio last week and stopped by a new (to me) brewery on my way out of the city.
Gather Brewing is technically just outside of San Antonio in Universal City. It had a soft opening in 2020 during the pandemic, but it really officially opened in late 2021.
Bullet point list, because that’s how my brain is working today:
- It’s a family-owned place, which I love. They chose the name “gather” because, as a former Military family, they know how hard it is to find your people when you’re in a new place. So the intention behind Gather Brewing was to create a space for the community.
- It feels like a gathering place! The outdoor patio is lovely, and the majority of the restaurant and brewery (both indoor and out) is made up of big, communal tables.
- Super family-friendly menu with classics like burgers, fries, wings, and chicken tenders.
- I tried a flight of 4 beers, including one of their specials which was a collab with Pink Boot Society (which supports and promotes more females and non-binary individuals in the brewing space.) So far so good! I want to go back and try a full pint of something when I have more time (it’s so much easier to truly taste a beer when I order a full pint versus a tiny taster glass), but I loved their double IPA. It was rich and full and packed with hop flavor without being too heavy/syrupy…which is how many double IPAs end up tasting.
- It’s on the way from San Antonio to Austin…so stop by if you’re ever making that drive!
