Welcome to Wimberley, Texas! This quaint little town is about a 45-minute drive southwest of Austin. It has a sweet, rural feel to it. I love hunting for easy day trips from Austin under an hour away, so of course I had to visit Wimberley and explore all the sights!
If you’re looking for more day trips from Austin under 100 miles away, here are 14 good options. Don’t forget to check out my guide to Buda, TX and my guide of things to do in Georgetown, TX!
Planning a day trip to Wimberley? This guide has everything you need in it to make it a perfect day of exploring or a weekend getaway! (The hardest part will be deciding how to spend your time, because there’s LOTS to do in Wimberley.) I’ll share quick facts about Wimberley, best things to do in Wimberley, a bunch of great eats and drinks, and a beautiful and unique overnight stay option!

Quick Facts About Wimberley:
1. This is the perfect place to visit if you want a quiet, peaceful getaway.
2. Wimberley is all about slow, Texas living. Think: river sitting, local cafes, cocktails by the water, unique resorts for couples and families.
3. There are no highways that go through Wimberley, which results in the peaceful ambiance.

4. There’s no tubing in the Blanco River that runs through Wimberley (if you want to go tubing, head to the Guadalupe River in San Marcos Texas!) This is a huge perk if you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway: no drunk and noisy tubers heading down the river.
5. Wimberley is home to two iconic Texas swimming holes: Blue Hole Regional Park, and Jacob’s Well (I’ll share more about those below!)
6. It’s really been a resort town (since the early 1900s) and still thrives on tourism! Folks live in Wimberley, but it’s not a big commuter town like Georgetown or Buda.

THINGS TO DO IN WIMBERLEY
1. Hike Old Baldy

There’s a 360 degree view of Wimberley at the top, and it’s an epic place to start your morning! Quick note: there were more steps than I expected, haha! 218 in total, to be exact. So it’s definitely a bit of a workout, but it also wil be over in about 10 minutes. (For reference, I was 26 weeks pregnant and my friend has mild asthma, and we were both able to climb it no problem…so it’s not too, strenuous. It just takes your breath away a little bit.)

2. Swim AT Jacob’s Well

You’ve no doubt seen pictures of this iconic Texas swimming hole, and it’s just as cool to see in real life! It’s a natural spring that’s 12 feet wide and goes about 120 feet deep. You can jump off the edge into the well or just lounge around on the edges.
Insider tip: make reservations really early! Weekends sell out at the beginning of the summer, and the weekdays fill up pretty quickly, too.

I adore the mission of this place: “to reinvest in the dignity of the human spirit through the performing arts, the beauty of nature, and community fellowship.” There’s an amphitheatre for community plays, a lot of charming gardens, ponds, and fountains (many of which were Eagle Scout projects), a maze, a children’s play area, a life-size chess board, and more. It’s the sweetest little garden and a great place to wander on a beautiful day.

WHERE TO STAY IN WIMBERLEY
There are lots of cute getaways in Wimberley! I’ll be adding more as I explore the area further. For starters, check out this adorable overnight stay:
YURTOPIA WIMBERLEY

One of the coolest and most unique getaways I’ve ever seen! (Yurtopia books fast, so get your reservation in early.) These traditional Mongolian yurts are Texas glamping at its finest: wifi, private hot tubs, secluded outdoor shower, and your own kitchenette, tv, and upstairs deck with views of the hill country.
The 26-acre property is incredibly secluded, quiet, and absolutely beautiful. Would make a great anniversary/honeymoon getaway if you book the private yurts, or a fun couples retreat if you book the three River Bluff yurts that share a common dining area.
