Patrizi’s Family-Owned Italian Food Truck

I walked up to Patrizi’s and was greeted with a friendly welcome by Nic Patrizi himself, one of the two Patrizi cousins who owns this little family-run Italian food truck in east Austin.

“Order a bunch of dishes, drink some wine, share plates, yell at each other like a big Italian family,” were his words of wisdom on how to fully embrace my authentic Italian meal.

After far too many weeks of craving some really good pasta, I set up a friend date with Caitlin and went to eat a meal of pasta on Sunday night. It was nearly 100 degrees outside, but that didn’t subside my cravings for warm, creamy plates of hand pulled noodles.

If you haven’t been to Patrizi’s, um, FIX THAT please. It’s at the top of my list for best pasta in Austin! Why is it so good?

Patrizi’s is a family-owned businesses from 1948.

That’s enough of a reason to get me excited to support them! Patrizi’s started as a family restaurant in Beaumont, TX, which closed in the 90’s and then re-opneed as a food truck at The Vortex on Manor Rd in Austin in 2013.

Nic and Matt Patrizi wanted to pay homage to the big, loud, Italian family who had put so much heart into that old restaurant, so they kept the family name as the food truck’s title, and they still get daily customers who used to be regulars at the old Beaumont restaurant.

The noodles are hand-pulled to order.

Yes, please. If your favorite Italian restaurant isn’t doing this, find a new Italian restaurant.

Literally EVERYTHING is made from scratch

I kind of just started laughing when Nic went on, and on, and on about everything that Patrizi’s makes from scratch:

  • Noodles (duh!)
  • All of the sauces
  • Herbs are grown in their own herb garden
  • Honey comes from their own bee hive
  • Farm cheese
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Feta cheese
  • Vegan cheese
  • Meatballs
  • Hand-cased sausage
  • Salt
  • Infused oils
  • Jams and jellies
  • Confit garlic and tomatoes
  • Preserved lemons
  • Cured and smoked pancetta
  • Meatballs

I mean…come on! Patrizi’s is doing so much work so we can walk up to the food truck window and order a perfect plate of pasta.

It’s located on a small compound that also has a quirky little theater and a bar.

Grab a bottle of wine, order tons of pasta, and stay for a show!

The food truck is covered with art from a local Austin artists. Some of it is a permanent feature of the food truck, and there’s also rotating art gallery on the patio for other local artists. Yay for supporting local, Patrizi’s! I love ya for that.

Here’s what we ordered:

Garlic Bread

They do it right! Grilled ciabatta, poached garlic, and grana. The garlic is soft and served whole on top of the bread, so you mash it down with a fork and spread it over the bread.

Marfa Tomatoes

Fresh tomatoes, confit tomatoes, house cheese, and fresh herbs. It’s essentially a caprese salad that’s tumbled in a bowl instead of laid flat. Another little lovely summer dish!

Roasted Beets

These roasted beets are served with homemade ricotta cheese, lemon zest, and pickled onions. The perfect summer prelude to the pasta.

The Great Leopold

Fresh pulled pasta covered in basil and arugula pesto, served with pumpkin seeds, crushed red chilis, and lemon zest.

Karah’s Diovolo

Fresh pulled pasta with lemon, olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and chilis, and egg yolk. The egg yolk is extra, but you’ll want to get it.

I love this place! My son moved to Austin about a year ago and when I went to visit in September he took me here. The atmosphere is so unique and the food is heavenly. Everything is made to order and so fresh. The staff is great and explain all the dishes and answer questions before you order. My favorite place in Austin!
