20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

I was scrolling through my photos on my phone the other day, and I realized there are lots of photos of delicious food that I haven’t shared yet on my blog or instagram! So here are 20 things that I’ve eaten lately in Austin (and loved!) that I want to share with you. Enjoy!

1. The Pascal Burger at Hopfields

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Possibly theeee greatest burger in Austin! I love how they use camambert cheese (so unique!) and whole grain mustard for a nice tangy bite.

2. Tonkotsu at Ramen Tatsu-ya20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

My sister was the first guest in town for Thanksgiving last week, so she and Nate and I went out to eat on Tuesday night at Ramen Tatsu-ya. It was her first time there, so she went with the classic pork bone broth. It takes them 60 hours to make, but the rich, indulgent taste is worth every single second!

3. Coconut Cream Pie at J.T. Youngbloods20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

I’ll be honest…my favorite part of fried chicken restaurants is the pie for dessert at the end of the meal. J.T. Youngblood’s in Mueller makes all of their pie completely from scratch (including a flaky homemade crust – yay!) and the coconut cream is my favorite. It has a strong vanilla flavor. It’s borderline too strong, but somehow just right for this pie. I think if there was even the teeniest bit more vanilla in this pie, it would be too much. They cut it off at just the right amount.

4. The Duck Pastrami at Noble Sandwich Co

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

I’ve had this sandwich before, but a couple weeks ago I tried making it into a reuben for the first time. There’s a small up charge, but it’s totally worth it for that tangy slaw on the hot, melty sandwich. All the yums.

5. BBQ At Terry Black’s

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

The line can get sooo long on the weekends, so we went on a Monday afternoon at 1 pm and we had no wait! Brisket, sausage, green beans, creamed corn, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler for the win.

6. Drinks at TRACE20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

TRACE is the W Hotel’s downtown bar. Nate and I were eating at a downtown restaurant for date night, and we walked past TRACE afterward and I declared that I had never been inside that bar and wanted to check it out. So we walked in and ordered a couple cocktails and enjoyed the ambiance. It has a club-like feel because of all the red uplighting, and it’s definitely on the swankier end (compared to the casual dive bars I usually visit.) Totally loved it!

7. Thai Breakfast Tacos at Thai Fresh

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Thai Fresh, one of my favorite little neighborhood Thai places, just started a breakfast taco program! I hope all of you go check these out sometime soon, because they’re so tasty and unique! I can’t think of any breakfast tacos like these in the entire city. All of the tacos have Thai flavors, like curry, soy and fish sauce, and cumin. I love the Curried Potatoes and Eggs Taco, and the Pork Thai Omelet Taco (pictured above.)

8. Big-As-Your-Plate Pancake at Counter Cafe
20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Yum, I love a good blueberry pancake! Counter Cafe’s big-as-your-plate pancake is literally as big as your plate… One pancake was plenty to fill me up for the morning. There’s an option to add blueberries or chocolate chips, and they make sure to put plenty of them in the batter so every bite has one.

9. Lunch at Flower Child

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Eating at Flower Child just makes me feel good! I love their avocado hummus, their kale salad, and their butternut squash with mulberry. (And my inner Instagramer loves how they have white marble tables – every photo here looks gorgeous!)

10. Moo Sway Congee at Sway

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

{I wrote all about this brunch here.} I adore Sway for dinner, but I only recently starting eating brunch here. I’ve tried 4 things on the brunch menu so far, and I’ve loved every single one. The Moo Sway Congee is ridiculous. I’ll be ordering this again next time I brunch at Sway!

11. Chewy Chocolate Cookie at Little Deli
20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Go to Little Deli for their New Jersey style pizza, and then be sure to get one of these chewy chocolate cookies for dessert. They’re a mix between a brownie and a cookie, chewy, caramelized, full of big pieces of walnut and loads of rich chocolate flavor.

12. Chili Cheese Fries at 24 Diner

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Turns out there aren’t many restaurants that actually hand-cut their potatoes, but you can get some at 24 Diner! These babies are completely irresistible. They’re covered in chili, cheddar, red onion, and jalapeños, and once you start eating them, you won’t be able to stop. Bonus: they’re available 24 hours a day!

13. Biscuits at Fixe Southern House

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

These biscuits are on par with the biscuits at Olamaie. I would gladly eat a brunch made of these biscuits, and nothing else. (Ok, maybe a cocktail on the side.)

14. Lemon Merigue Pie Ice Cream at Fresa’s

weekend in Austin

Who knew a grilled chicken restaurant would make the BEST lemon ice cream!? Nate and I ate two pints of this stuff in a single weekend!

15. Hell Yes Helles at ABGB

Their award-winning beers have me swooning every time. I’ve worked through entire beer menu, but the Hell Yes has been my favorite at ABGB for years!

16. Acai Bowl at Juiceland

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

It doesn’t usually come with this many fun toppings, but you can add on as many as you want at Juiceland to make it healthier, tastier, and (important for instagram…) prettier!!

17. Vegetarian Enchiladas at Mother’s Cafe

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Mother’s Cafe is an old-school Austin vegetarian restaurant in Hyde Park. I went there recently and got the enchiladas covered in sour cream sauce, and added a big scoop of guac on top. Super tasty and filling! I can’t say that I prefer vegetarian enchiladas over chicken, but if you’re vegetarian and looking for a place with lots of options, check out Mother’s Cafe.

18. Black Angus Hamburger at Clark’s Oyster Bar

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

Clark’s has one of my favorite burgers in the city, and it’s 1/2 off during happy hour, which is M-F from 3-6 pm!

19. Buford T’s Diablo at Stiles Switch BBQ

This hefty BBQ sandwich at Stiles Switch is thick slices of brisket, a bunch of spicy sausage, and plenty of jalapeños for a spicy kick. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

20. Poutine at Banger’s

20 things I've eaten lately in Austin and LOVED

I just don’t get tired of this poutine at Banger’s on Rainey street!
