Easter 2023

How was your weekend?

We went to Dallas to spend a few days with my side of the family. These are weekends that I’ll cherish forever, because the family dynamics are just so much fun. I feel like I’m storing up memories that I’ll get to look back on for decades and decades. Here are a few little snippets:

^ First stop: Vector Brewing! This is one of our favorite brewpubs in Dallas. (Granted, I still have a lot of breweries to visit…but Vector won Best Brewpub in Texas at the Texas Craft Brewers Cup this year!)

It was cold and cloudy outside, so we hung out in the indoor taproom and munched on pizza and sandwiches and cheesy bread and drank flights of beer.

We stayed here for hours! Nate and I were about to head home when my sister and her boyfriend (who had taken Milo to Legoland) said they were 20 minutes away and were going to meet us there. So we ordered another round. 🙂

Vector Brewing, I love you.

Back at my parents’ house and Milo did a few “trial runs” of the Easter egg hunt.

Question: how many Easter egg hunts can one toddler do during Easter weekend before he gets bored of it all?

Answer: infinity.

Milo would take the empty Easter eggs and throw them all over the yard, then run and pick them up.

Dayton preferred to sit on my lap and snuggle with me. Not complaining. (Notice the pile of stuffed animals he’s holding in his lap.)

Family dinners are my favorite! We all gather around this oval table (I think we fit 11 people on Saturday night!) and eat steaks and veggies and potatoes and bread and drink bottles of wine and chat for hours.

The boys were soooo sleepy at 8:00 on Saturday night but also wanted to sing happy birthday to their dad!

We had TWO birthdays to celebrate, so we had to eat two different cakes. Naturally. A red velvet and a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Which one is your favorite?

Of course, family weekends in Dallas always involves lots of other shenanigans, like Dayton and my dad reading the Wall Street Journal together…

…and perfecting their golf swings…

…and eating lots and lots of Easter candy!

We drove back home to Austin with some sleepy little babies in the back seat. Both Nate and I agreed that it was one of the easiest drive from Dallas to Austin that we’ve ever had. Absolutely zero traffic (amazing!!) and two exhausted and quiet little boys in their car seats.

PS: it’s April so I’m thinking back to this fun trip we took to Portland Oregon last April for Nate’s birthday. I’d love to have a brisk spring day in the PNW right now…
