I checked another item off my 2019 Austin summer bucket list: I (finally) went boating in Austin! How have I lived here so long without going out on a boat on Lake Austin??
I rented a boat with Float On, this amazing local company that offers boat rentals in both Lake Austin and Lake Travis. They offer pontoons and ski boats, but since this 6-month pregnant belly isn’t going to let me water ski any time soon, so we went with the pontoon. 😉
Monique, Caitlin, me, and all of our significant others gathered under the 360 bridge where our driver was waiting with the boat in the water, ready to go.
The entire boat rental process really couldn’t have been easier. I remember borrowing a family friend’s boat when I was young, and we had to back it into the water with a truck at the boat ramp….soooo tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing! I’m officially going with Float On every time I need to rent a boat in Austin.
We did the 4-7 pm Sunday afternoon time slot (there are lots of options – check out their website to see the rental time that fits your schedule and budget. Weekdays are obviously a lot cheaper than weekends.)
We brought plenty of drinks and snacks and enjoyed the sunny afternoon!
Haha… Caitlin asked me this question: “As a food blogger, what’s the one food you’d be most embarrassed to let your blog readers know you actually love?”
Uh…probably Sour Cream and Onion Pringles. But I only enjoy them when in the summer when I’m on a boat or at the pool! Something about the fake onion taste and the extreme saltiness (yum…sodium) just screams HAPPY to me when I’m out on the lake. Don’t judge me.
We cruised up and down the lake for a while and then our driver brought us over to a little cove where we could jump in the water and float for a while.
Our boat rental came with a Lilly Pad (basically a giant flat floatation device that holds a ton of people) so we could float around and listen to some tunes and drink beer! Caitlin also brought her giant swan floatie. 😉

Another favorite food to eat on a lake day? Smitten Kitchen’s Salted Brown Butter Krispy Treats! One of my childhood friends has been making these for years…she would bring them on family camping trips and slumber parties when we were kids. I’m telling you – the brown butter makes all the difference!
The afternoon flew by, and soon it was time to return to the dock. I love that this iconic Austin bridge is where we loaded/unloaded, because it makes for great pictures!
The whole day was such a dream. I plan on repeating this lake day every summer. (I mean…next year I’ll have a baby, so we’ll see what happens.) Float On couldn’t have been kinder or easier to rent with – seriously, I 100% recommend this company if you’re looking for a boat rental in Austin for a bachelorette party, birthday party, or just a random summer day out on the lake.
