A few years ago, my fiancé recommended the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. The title sounds a little gimmicky, but I gave it a shot and I listened to it as an audiobook. I was so inspired to get my life organized! You know what I’m talking about? I wanted to have total control over my email inbox, my calendar, my pile of “someday I’ll get around to this project” type of things that never actually happened. Now, I have to admit that I fall in the category of people who read this book, tried his method for a few weeks, and gradually fizzled out. Ha! I’ll say that especially after adding wedding planning into the mix of life, I’m feeling especially unorganized, and it’s definitely time for me to re-visit that book and start doing some of his methods! It’s hard to stay on top of the constant inbox of LIFE! I have plenty of improvement to make in my day-to-day organizational method, and one of the things that gets me inspired to get to work and start GTD (getting things done.. ;)) is a beautiful coffee shop!
Where did we go to study, work, or just kill time before all of these gorgeous coffee shops popped up in Austin? Here are my five favorite places in the city to spend some time working, writing, reading, or just hanging out for a few minutes!
____________
Seventh Flag Coffee Co.
This adorable little bungalow/coffee shop on South First is one of my favorite places to meet up for coffee dates or fly solo for a morning of answering some emails. The giant patio and big, grassy outdoor area with picnic tables is a perfect overflow area, but if the weather’s not great, the interior is so adorable! Seventh Flag always has one guest roaster available, and the most recent one was Huckleberry Roasters, one of my favorite coffee roasters from Denver, CO.

Fleet Coffee
No surprise here….Fleet Coffee is my favorite new little coffee shop on the east side. Opened by two coffee champions, Lorenzo Perkins and Patrick Pierce, these guys knows their stuff and are so friendly and helpful to give coffee suggestions whenever Nate or I have to buy a new bag of coffee. The space is small, but the outdoor area of tables is perfect for a warm, sunny day. Thankfully we have plenty of those in Austin!

Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors
This awesome little coffee shop nestled into a neighborhood in the east side is filled with plenty of little tables for hunkering down with a laptop with a gorgeous cappuccino. I love the pretty white walls, the natural light, and the great coffee selection! So while you’re plowing through that never-ending inbox of emails and scheduling, you can also enjoy a well-crafted coffee drink.

HOUNDSTOOTH COFFEE
This one is at the top of my list for favorite Austin coffee shops. Houndstooth was the place where I went about 3 years ago when I was first starting to appreciate pour-overs and understand the difference in taste between brewed coffee and individually hand-crafted coffee. There are two locations (north and downtown), and I like the downtown one best because it’s easier to find parking and a table! Now, downtown parking is obviously awful, so park in the Frost Bank Tower garage and Houndstooth will validate your parking ticket up to one hour!
401 Congress Ave, Ste 100C, Austin TX 78701
6:30 AM – 7:00 PM Mon-Fri, 8 AM – 5 PM Sat-Sun
Stouthaus Coffee Pub
This is a great, lively little place that’s perfect if you need coffee house to work in later in the day. In addition to coffee, Stouthaus also offers craft beer on tap, so you’ll be able to find the beverage you need at whatever time of day. I love coming in the morning to grab a Tacodeli breakfast taco and a capp for a couple moments of quiet before going to teach orchestra…if I can wake up early enough to make that happen!
