Relaxing Day

My ultimate way to vacation is to spend long time in one place. That way I don’t have to go too fast or wake up too early; I can mindlessly wander about, taking in the sights and sounds without feeling guilty about leaving anything out. So, today was my ultimate day!
Lauren and I walked across the bridge to go kayaking in the Potomac. It was a cool, cloudy morning. I looove getting in a nice workout before eating!

Brunch was at Open City coffehouse-diner-bar.

It definitely passed my Favorite Cafés Checklist. This list is no joke. It’s serious business, y’all. As breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, there are few restaurants that pass the entire list. I have officially added Open City to the list!

  • Cute ambiance (floor, ceiling, menu boards, fonts, outdoor dining space, dishware, etc)
  • Really, really good coffee and tea
  • Reasonable prices
  • Great pastries
  • Appropriate noise level (not too loud to talk, yet not awkwardly quiet)

I had a cafe au lait, veggie egg scramble, hash browns, and english muffin. Winners all around. Props.

Lauren had to leave today 🙁 but I still have one more day in DC with Erin! We took the metro to the Kennedy Center. Super cool fact: they have a free 6:00 performance every evening, 365 days per year. loveeeeeee.
Tonight was the Vocal Arts Society Young Artist Competition Winners (woah – mouthful). They only sang art songs and it was soo fun. The best part? After walking for 40 minutes we were STARVED for dinner.
We went to Lauriol Plaza….again, this was amazing! I have had very few bad things to say about the places where we’ve eaten on this trip. That’s one of the best things about visiting someone who lives in the city…she has eaten everywhere and only recommends the best places.

Check out all the colors:)

After lots of food and laughs and food and drinks and food, we called it a night.
