Work Out!
My parents are rockstars.

They’re both in incredible shape! I love telling people that my parents met swimming in their Master’s group! My dad played basketball in high school and college and has run multiple marathons, and now he swims several times a week, runs, and has coached his kids basketball team for years. My mom has also been a runner, but now she mainly swims for fitness and does a triathlon every summer in Seattle, WA. They both have a healthy diet and are constantly researching food and supplements that will help them live a longer, stronger, happier life. I’m amazed.
And because of these two gems in my life, I have a passion for working out!
I’m lucky to be on a college campus this month because I get to use a pretty great gym while I’m here. It costs $30 for the month, which I think is dirt cheap. It’s seriously a beautiful workout facility! In addition to the typical fitness/weight room, there’s
- an indoor 50 meter pool
- an outdoor 25 yard/recreational pool
- a giant all-purpose room for exercise classes
- a bunch of basketball gyms (which I will never use)
- and outdoor rock climbing wall ( which I will definitely never use – haha – been there, done that, didn’t go so well)
- a giant locker room – the only down side is that towels cost $1 each use. I was spoiled by free towels in college!
I’m trying to get to the gym 4 times per week while I’m here. Here are last week’s workouts:
Monday
3,000 meter swim!
This was my first time to do a swim workout since the season ended back in February! It wasn’t pretty, but it felt amazing.
Tuesday
“Athletic Conditioning”
I walked into this workout class at 5:15 p.m. expecting a yoga class. Turns out that I got the time wrong, but I thought, how bad could this be? Answer: REALLY BAD. This class kicked my ass! Think high-intensity obstacle courses, instructor yelling in your face, hard rock music, sprint-til-you-throw-up type of class. After the 60 minutes were up I dragged my sweaty body back home and took an icy shower and woke up the next morning sore. Everywhere. So much for a relaxing yoga class!
Wednesday
rest
Thursday
4 mile run
Friday
“Power Yogafit”
HERE’s the yoga class I was looking for! This was a lot more intense than the yoga classes I’ve taken in the past. Duh, Kelsey. Look at the title. I was a hot sweaty mess within 10 minutes. It was a great class, though!
