I LOVE living in Austin!! My husband and I have been here for over a decade now, and we’ve done countless staycations here in town. I’m going to pull from all of my favorites and share the perfect romantic weekend itinerary for couples with you.

With vibrant live music, laid-back patios, gorgeous hotels, and truly epic food scene, Austin is the perfect spot for a romantic weekend getaway. I’ve lived in Austin a decade, and I still feel like I’m uncovering new gems every week. Whether you’re here for the tacos, the wine bars, or just looking to soak up some quality time together, this city has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable couples weekend.
Where to Stay in Austin

If you’re planning a luxurious, romantic weekend, look no further than Commodore Perry Estate. This dreamy Auberge resort is tucked away in the middle of the city but feels like a world away. The rooms are stunning, the gardens are storybook-beautiful, and the restaurant is a destination in itself. This is where to go if you’re celebrating something big—or just want to feel like you’re in a Nancy Meyers movie for a weekend.
Hotel Saint Cecilia
This South Congress boutique hotel is impossibly cool and oh-so-private. Think: lush landscaping, a hidden courtyard pool, and velvet headboards in moody rooms. The hotel is just off the main SoCo strip, which means you’re within walking distance of all the fun but still get the peace and privacy of a tucked-away retreat.
The Loren at Lady Bird Lake
One of Austin’s newer hotels, The Loren offers modern elegance with unbeatable views of the lake and skyline. Their rooftop restaurant, Nido, is perfect for a sunset dinner or cocktails. The spa here is also top-tier if you’re looking to add a little pampering to your weekend.
Hotel Magdalena
This music-inspired boutique hotel from Bunkhouse is casual, stylish, and filled with natural light. It has a gorgeous pool, mid century vibes, and is within walking distance to all the best restaurants on South Congress.

When’s the Best Time to Visit Austin?
While Austin is warm year-round, the absolute best time to visit is March–May or October–early December. These seasons bring sunny days, cooler evenings, and all the good vibes: patio weather, music festivals, and wildflowers in bloom.
If you’re visiting in the summer (yes, it’s hot), just plan to spend your afternoons poolside or floating the river, and save the romantic dinners and evening strolls for after sundown.
Do You Need to Rent a Car?
It depends! If you’re staying central and mostly want to explore downtown, South Congress, and East Austin, you can get by with Ubers and walking. But if you plan to visit Hill Country wineries, go hiking, or explore neighborhoods like North Loop or Tarrytown, a rental car is super helpful.
A Romantic Weekend in Austin: 3-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival + Exploring South Congress
Afternoon:
Drop your bags and head straight to South Congress, one of Austin’s most iconic neighborhoods. While everyone else will be grabbing a coffee at Jo’s Coffee (home of the famous “I love you so much” mural), the best coffee is actually down the street at Little Brother. Be sure to pop into cute shops like the Kendra Scott flagship store, Prima Dora, and luxury brands like Hermes and ALO.

Dinner at June’s All Day
This wine bar/bistro hybrid is effortlessly romantic. The patio is perfect for people-watching, the rosy pink burger and fries are a must, and the wine list is always on point. My husband and I love chatting with the sommelier before selecting a bottle of wine to share over dinner.
After Dinner:
Catch live music at The Continental Club, or stroll hand-in-hand across the South Congress Bridge to watch the bats take flight (from March through October). End the evening with a scoop of Gooey Butter Cake ice cream at Jeni’s.
Day 2: Barton Springs, Museums, and Sunset Views

Morning at Barton Springs Pool
Start your day with a swim in Austin’s beloved spring-fed pool. Bring a towel, grab breakfast tacos from Tacodeli or El Primo on the way, and soak up that fresh morning air.

Late Morning at the Blanton Museum of Art
After a swim, head to UT campus to explore the Blanton Museum’s bright, modern galleries. Don’t miss Ellsworth Kelly’s Austin installation right outside—it’s a serene little gem of architecture and color. You’ve no doubt seen it on instagram!
Lunch at Swedish Hill
This modern deli in Clarksville has the dreamiest pastries, beautiful salads and sandwiches, and great coffee. It’s just the type of spot you’d linger with your partner over a bottle of rosé and a buttery croissant.
Afternoon Stroll at Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk
Take a long, meandering walk along the boardwalk with stunning views of the Austin skyline. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for deep convos and people-watching.

Dinner at Comedor
With a speakeasy vibe, this modern Mexican restaurant in downtown Austin looks like a black brick building from the outside but is actually flooded with light inside! It’s one of the most magical date night spots in town. The food is Mexican-inspired and seasonal, and the setting feels like stepping into an elegant CDMX restaurant.
After dinner
Catch an ACL Live show at the Moody Theater. ACL Live is the longest-running television music show, and it’s filmed right here in downtown Austin! Everyone from Willie Nelson to the Avett Brothers to Dolly Parton have performed on this stage.

Super late night
If you and your boo are night owls, check out Here Nor There speakeasy. It’s an underground bar in Austin that you have to reserve in advance to get the special check-in code. Once you’re there, you’ll be greeted with a welcome glass of champagne and some of the best, most inventive cocktails of your life.
Day 3: Hill Country + Wine + a Sunset Picnic

Brunch at Josephine House
This Clarksville gem is perfect for a leisurely brunch. The cottage-style restaurant is ridiculously cute, and the lemon ricotta pancakes are the best in town.
Midday Drive to Hill Country Wineries
Austin’s proximity to Texas wine country is one of its most romantic perks. Head out to Driftwood or Dripping Springs(about 30–45 minutes away) for an afternoon of sipping and strolling.
Fall Creek Vineyards and Duchman Family Winery both have beautiful grounds.
Want a more casual, boho vibe? Check out The Austin Winery, located right here in Austin!
Picnic Dinner at Mount Bonnell
Pick up some wine, cheese, and snacks from Antonelli’s Cheese Shop on your way back into the city and head to Mount Bonnell for sunset. It’s one of Austin’s most iconic viewpoints and a dreamy way to wrap up the weekend.
