Memorable Memorial

This was by far the most meaningful Memorial Day I have experienced in my 21 years.

The day started at 7 a.m. with a 30 minute workout at the hotel sports club. A quick workout is wayyy better than nothing.

And it was fun because of a personal tv and lots of magazines. I’m a sucker for those little things!
(PS look at how cute our hotel room bathroom is! Haha!)

The day started with a visit to Iwo Jima Memorial. I didn’t realize how tall it is!
The next stop was Arlington Memorial Cemetery.

This is a 612 acre cemetery with over 300,000 graves. The mere sight of that many tombstones put me into shock at the amount of men and women who have died for this country. And this was only a tiny representation of the actual number!

It made me sad to realize that every person who was buried once had a life and a family and experienced fear and pain. I don’t think about that very often.

Because it’s Memorial Day, 2 roses were handed out to every one. One was to place on a grave, and one was to take home.

Then we watched the changing of the guard. Very complex! It takes 6 months to learn how to do this.

By this point we were all STARVING because we didn’t have breakfast, so we went to The Liberty Tavern.

4 siblings. Makes me miss mine!

Lunch started with a cheese sampler. I was immediately in heaven! Oh. My. Gosh. I love cheeeeeese. 2 goat’s milk, 2 sheep’s milk, and 1 cow’s milk. I can’t remember their names 🙁

Lobster roll and arugula salad for me! It was delicious. This place has been rated in Washingtonian Magazine’s top 100 restaurants in DC for 5 years in a row.

The evening was spent at Lauren’s other older sister’s house (Julie) for a cookout.

I brought some Shiner. Y’know, for a little taste of Texas.

Hair braiding happened

And the evening was spent out on the town at Four Courts Irish Pub with Lauren, Erin, and Erin’s grad school friend. I looooove my friend!
