I Signed Up for The CapTex Tri Again!

Here we go, baby!

I just signed up to do the CapTex Tri (olympic distance!) this year, and I. Am. So. Pumped…slash nervous.

Do you remember when I did the sprint triathlon last year? (Read my race recap here! It was such a fun event.)

It was really, truly, such a fun morning. I love racing and it’s always been a part of my life! (Not triathlons…I’m brand new to this sport! But I’ve been a swimmer and a distance runner in the past.)

Anyhow, that sprint triathlon in 2022 got me going, and I think I’ve officially been bit by the triathlon bug…and so this year I decided to just go for it and sign up for the olympic distance!

I’m not going to lie: I’m a little bit scared by it. It’s literally double the distance of the sprint triathlon that I did last year! But it’s like just enough fear to make me feel excited. Do you know what I mean?

An olympic distance triathlon is 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike ride, and 10km run.

(Aka .93 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run.)

Right now I’m doing some base training to get my heart and lungs in better aerobic shape. I’m re-learning how to run (I read this book and I’m working on my form a lot) and I’m trying out longer Peloton rides (lots of 45-min and 60-min rides.)

I do not know what I’m doing. Haha! I’ll just be honest about that. Triathlon is a sport that intimidates me a bit. But I also know that it felt really, really good to race last year, and I have so much fun working toward a goal like this. I have a million things to learn about what gear to use, how to train three sports a the same time, what I need to know about transitions in the race, and about a million other things. Thankfully my mom is a pretty badass triathlete, so I’ll be asking her for a lot of advice.

I’ll be sharing some training updates throughout this semester. Excited to get going on this thing!
