Austin Food Crawls Book Launch Party

Remember that time I threw a book launch party when I was 8 months pregnant? OOF. Y’all! I had so much fun getting to meet you and hang out with you last Sunday at the AFC book launch party at Easy Tiger

(Can I tell you the truth real fast? At the end of the event, I a) stopped for a piece of chocolate cake on the drive home, and then b) plopped myself down on the couch and put my feet up because my ankles were like golf balls after standing up all afternoon. Haha!)

Austin Food Crawls is now out in the world! This book was 18 months in the making, and many years of living and eating and photographing my meals in Austin before that.

And it feels so, so good to finally see it in your hands!

Shout out to: Easy Tiger: for hosting the event and being the ultimate support! I love y’all, I love your delicious pastrami sandwiches and crazy good beer selection, and I love your patio.

Dulce Vida Pineapple Jalapeño tequila: for for providing tequila for those yummy smoked pineapple cocktails!

Lick Honest Ice Creams: for being at the party! You are sincerely my favorite ice cream in town – no one else is putting the same quality and care into their ingredients the way you do, and it really shows in the products.

Kiera Jane: for the photos!

All of the Austin restaurants who included goodies in the swag bags: dang, y’all are generous! The Austin restaurant scene is full of some of the kindest people! I reached out to many to see if anyone wanted to include swag for my guests, and the result was a swag bag loaded with gift cards and freebies and coupons galore.

My hope is that Austin Food Crawls is a catalyst to help you discover your own favorite Austin restaurants. There are no chain restaurants in the book (unless they’re small chains that started in Austin, like Juiceland or TacoDeli), and every restaurant in the book is an Austin original.

AFC is, by no means, a complete guide to every great restaurant in Austin. (That, my friends, would be a very long book…) I got the anticipated question at the event: “why isn’t (blank) restaurant included?!”

If your favorite Austin restaurant isn’t it the book, it’s by no means a jab against that restaurant! It probably just means that there wasn’t space to fit it into that neighborhood. Every chapter is a “crawl,” meaning it gives a full day of eating through the neighborhood including things like morning coffee, brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, late-night dessert, and so on. I couldn’t include 6 dinner restaurants in the Downtown Austin crawl… 😉

Enjoy these snapshots from the event!
