Where To Eat In Austin This Weekend (2/7/20)

Aviary burger is sooo good!

Hi y’all! Happy Friday! I’ve got a full weekend in Austin. Brunch, bopping around with a friend, a little bit of work, and a little bit of play…and I’ll be packing in as many lazy hours snuggling on the couch with Milo as possible. (He’s growing so quickly and getting so big and wiggly, haha! I need time to slow down so I can snuggle my little baby a little bit longer.)

If you’re looking for some new places in Austin to try this weekend, you’re in the right place! I’m listing 5 of them right here to help with your #foodinspo! Three of them are brand new, one is an oldie (and it has a weekend happy hour – yessss) and one of them is an Austin classic that’s perfect for the weekend.

(Also see here and here for some similar posts to help you find some good weekend eats in Austin.

1. Taco Bronco Food Truck

You need to try this bbq taco food truck in East Austin!

I wrote all about this post on Wednesday, so if you missed it go read it right there. It’s parked behind Batch Craft Beer and Kolaches, and it’s a taco/bbq truck from Micklethwait Craft Meats. SO excited about this one!

2. Hestia

Hestia Austin

I finally went to check out the new live fire restaurant from chef Kevin Fink of (he created Emmer & Rye, one of my top 20 favorite Austin restaurants.) Nate and I went on a date night last weekend and started with a porrón of Spanish wine at the Basque-style bar at the entrance to Hestia, followed by a fantastic, memorable dinner at Hestia. Chef Fink actually comes to every single table to talk to the diners, explain the open fire concept, and take order. The Parker Rolls, Wagyu Short ribs, and Snapper were the three most memorable dishes and I would order them again and again.

Side note: Nate and I went to Hestia last Saturday night for a date night, and while we were there we realized it was exactly 6 years, to the night, since we met! February 1, 2014 was our very first date on Rainey Street at Craft Pride. My, what a lot has happened in those 6 years…

3. Aviary Wine Bar & Kitchen

Aviary burger is sooo good!

I’ve mentioned this darling wine bar many times, but it’s worth repeating for a few reasons. First, they have a Saturday happy hour with 1/2 off bottles. This is a big deal! Most places don’t offer discounts on the weekends, so this is one of my favorite places to frequent when I have friends in town on the weekends. I love grabbing two bar stool and splitting a bottle of wine with one of my girlfriends. Secondly, they offer a Monday burger special that’s absolutely amazing! It’s a different burger every week, and they’ll post about it on their instagram account so you can see what it is. They use Sour Duck Market’s burger rolls and 44 Farms beef, so you know it’s a good one. (PSST: see my giant list of the best burgers in Austin right here.)

4. OMG SQUEE

Y’all, how adorable is this little place? It’s a new Tex-Asian bakery that just opened in Austin. They serve macarons and taiyaki (you know, those Japanese fish-shaped cakes that are all over instagram?) and jiggly cheesecake. YES. Jiggly cheesecake is a thing, haha. Just go to their instagram handle and watch the videos. If you’re looking for a HIGHLY instagramable experience, head to OMG Squee this weekend!

5. Frozen custard and burgers at Sandy’s Hamburgers

Sandy's Hamburgers in Austin, since 1946! It's on my list of best burgers in Austin

Y’all, the weather is going to be so nice on Friday and Saturday, so it’s the perfect time to check off this South Austin hamburger stand if you haven’t been yet! It’s a family-friendly place, and it’s right across the street from Auditorium Shores so you can let the kids/dogs run around for a while, and then go get chocolate dip cones and burgers afterward. So fun.

In case you missed it…
