A Day In The Life: Pregnancy Edition

A day in the life Oct 2019

I don’t know why, but reading day-in-the-life posts is one of my favorite things to do. (I find myself googling “day in the life posts with newborns” now to get a glimpse into what life might be like in the near future.)

I share these posts every now and then (you can see one here from summer 2018 and here from winter 2019) as a way to a) entertain you, and b) help myself remember the little details from certain phases of life.

And remembering little details is exactly why I’m sharing a day-in-the-life post today…because there are so many crazy little details that go along with pregnancy, and I’m sure I’ll forget them if I don’t write them down! Also, it’s pretty fascinating to look into how much my life has changed since pregnancy took over. My life used to be pretty go-go-go, and I’ve definitely slowed down and learned to relax a lot as the end of pregnancy draws near. My energy levels are probably less than half of what they used to be, and I’ve learned to be ok with that and recognized this phase of life as just that: a phase.

So here’s a typical day-in-the-life for me now at 38 weeks pregnant…keep your expectations low, friend. šŸ˜‰

8:00 am: Alarm goes off, and my first thought is…ouch. Hips hurt, feet hurts and I feel a bit groggy, even after 8-9 hours of sleep. I told Nate the other day that crawling out of bed at this point feels like getting out of a car after being in a mild car accident, like being rear-ended. Everything just hurts a little bit, haha. My mattress is amazing and I have the best set-up I can find in regards to pillows, but discomfort is just the name of the game at this point.

8:08 am: Ok, I’m just now getting out of bed… The snooze button wasn’t part of my life before pregnancy, but now that I’m in the home stretch and know that sleep deprivation with a newborn is in my future, I savoring every little bit of extra sleep that I want.

^ 8:15 am: Make coffee (here’s how I make my morning pour over at home), put a piece of bread in the toaster, sip on some green juice. I like to eat breakfast while I’m doing my gratitude journal, and that’s exactly what I do today.

^ 8:50 am: I’m out the door and on my way to a barre class! I try to do something active every day, even if it’s just a short walk 20 minute walk or a prenatal yoga video on youtube (I like this one and this one.) I love Barre Code workouts the most, though, because I work harder when I have a class to attend and an instructor telling me what to do, and I love the feeling of empowerment after I’ve finished a class. I’ve eased off the early morning classes in this third trimester of pregnancy, and my last cardio class was at 36 week pregnant, but the regular barre classes still feel sooo good.

10:00 am: Class is over, and I head to my local neighborhood library to get a couple hours of work done: I write a blog post, answer emails (one last brand collaboration to wrap up before I’m on maternity leave!), and plan social media content for the next few days.

Oh yeah, and I snack on a Trader Joe’s ABC (almond-butter filled chocolate oat) bar before I leave my car. My stomach gets full so quickly these days, so I find myself eating lots of little bites throughout the day!

^12:30 pm: Nixta Taqueria is a newly opened taco shop in East Austin that’s on my list to try, so I text Nate and ask him if he wants to meet me there for lunch. WOWZA this place is good!

^1:30 pm: I have few other work tasks on my to-do list for the day, so I stop by Brew & Brew and sip on a kombucha while I hammer out another hour (ish) of work. (Side note: I’m not a fan of this watermelon flavor… I love almost all of the Buddha’s Brew kombucha flavors I’ve tried, but watermelon was way too sweet. I prefer a very tart, dry kombucha.)

3:00 pm: Back home….and I finally shower and put on makeup. (Remember that barre class I took way back at 9 am? Still in my workout clothes from that. šŸ˜‰ ) I feel absolutely exhausted, so I lie down for about 30 minutes to recharge. Then a quick snack of a gala apple + sunflower seed butter.

^4-8 pm: An afternoon of teaching violin lessons. I used to be able to teach in long stretches without snacks, but now I have to nibble on some calories around 6:30 pm if I’m going to stay alert and energetic for the entire teaching session.

8:00 pm: Done. Tired. Happy. I feel like I ran a marathon.

8:15 pm: God bless Nate. He has been soooo good at dinner prep/clean up these last few weeks. I still cook occasionally, but he does more of it than I do. I’d say it’s more like 80/20 while it used to be 50/50. He is seriously the ultimate partner and supporter through this pregnancy journey. I walk into the kitchen and he has dinner ready to go for me, so I gobble it down. Side note: no matter how hungry I feel, my stomach gets full so, so quickly these days!

8:45 pm: I oil up my belly…haha! No joke, this is such a wonderful part of the evening! I start by washing my face and getting ready for bed, and then I put three pumps of this oil all over my belly, and it feels sooo good. #thelittlethings.

9:00 pm: I spend about 30 minutes on instagram, responding to messages, and checking out what friends have been up to.

^9:45 pm: Yay, reading time! I start a new book for book club (March by Geraldine Brooks) and read for about 30 minutes before I’m too sleepy to stay awake any longer.

10:15 pm: Lights out! It will take 1-2 hours before I fall asleep because hello, my belly is huge and sleep is uncomfortable. And then I’ll eventually fall into a deep sleep and wake up in the morning feeling like a car hit me. šŸ˜‰

So that’s a day-in-the-life! It’s nothing too crazy, but it’s always fun to go back and look at these posts to remember what I was doing at a certain stage of life.

Right now I’m giving myself grace to wake up late, take naps, and either let Nate do meal prep or prepare really easy, simple meals for myself. Everything is slowing down as I get ready to bring this baby into the world.

Thanks for stopping by today!
