Thai Brunch in Austin at Sway

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, and every time I’ve tried Sway’s brunch I’ve been blown away! Not just by how delicious it is, but by how unique every dish is.

Nate and I stopped in on Saturday for a lazy weekend meal. I had a lot of heavy food (and a lot of booze!) on Friday and wanted something light for Saturday morning brunch, so I went with the coconut chia seed bowl. Super tasty. Then Nate’s congee arrived, and I stole a few bites and decided I’m definitely ordering that next time. Holy yum.

I’m publishing this on a Monday morning, and let’s be honest: all of our brains are a little sleepy. Here’s a bullet point list for those of you who need a little structure like I do:

  • Sway is part of the New Waterloo restaurant group (La Condesa, Il Brutto, Café no Sé, to name a few.) I love their restaurants and I’ve never had a bad experience at any of them!
  • I didn’t go to this brunch for many years because I didn’t know if I’d like Thai food for breakfast. However, it’s pretty “Americanized” Thai food. You’ll find regular brunch items here (like chicken and waffles) with Thai flavors incorporated.
  • Their outdoor garden is one of my favorite little places to dine! It’s a lovely place when the Austin weather is in its prime, like it was on Saturday. 70 degrees and sunny is the way to my heart.
  • They offer Saturday brunch (in addition to Sunday brunch), which can be hard to find.

^ Thai Iced Coffee to start! I typically just drink my coffee black, so Thai coffee with sweetened condensed milk is soooo sweet! But it’s a fun treat every now and then.

^ Chia seed bowl, which is a vegan dish of chia coconut pudding, puffed rice granola, seasonal fruits. It’s light, yet filling, and was exactly what I was craving for a breakfast on the healthier side.

^ Oh my soul. This savory dish was absolutely fantastic! Y’all known the I tend to order sweet dishes for breakfast, but after stealing a bunch of this from Nate, I decided that I have to order it next time I’m at Sway. It’s the moo sway congee: sugar-cured pulled pork, crispy egg, today’s pickles, shitake, thai chili charrot, coconut rice grits.

^ The Fried Chicken + Basil is another one of my favorites here: thai basil waffle, togarashi fried chicken, thai herb butter, tamarind + ginger maple syrup, pickled fresno.

I love how they incorporate Thai basil into the waffle batter. It’s such a fun twist on a typical brunch dish!
