Here’s how I spent 48 hours in Fort Worth, Texas last weekend! I went there to visit my sister, Cara. We’ve been BFFS since we were little girls, and our relationship just keeps getting closer and closer. If you’re lucky enough to have a sister, invest in that friendship. 🙂

Cara is a lively, spunky, life-of-the-party sort of friend. But she can also be the best person to have a serious conversation with, because she’s never judgmental. Both sides of her are awesome, and we had such a great weekend together eating our way through Fort Worth!

DAY 1

10:00 am: coffee at Sons of Liberty

I picked up a pour over and a latte at Sons of Liberty. I got them both to-go, but I kinda wish I had stopped to stay for a little while. This place is so cute! Very industrial. It would be a great place to hang out for a while on the weekend, or hunker down with a laptop on a weekday morning.

11:00 am: Brunch at Fixture

No corners were cut at this brunch! We indulged in huge portions of fried chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict, and micas at Fixture for a giant brunch to kick off the weekend.

12:00 Oktoberfest!

My weekend in Fort Worth happened to be during Oktoberfest! We bought tickets and enjoyed a couple pints of beer, some schnitzel, the dachshund races, and all sorts of German-Tex merriment!

2:00 pm: Brews and Pizza at Fort Brewery

Kylee (sister in Dallas – you’ve seen her in a bunch of my insta stories lately from her visits to Austin) came to join us in Fort Worth for the afternoon! We met up at Fort Brewery for some pizza and pints.

4 pm: Wild Acre Brewing Co

I LOVED this spot! It’s basically a big party on the weekends. (Cara tells me it’s pretty much like this on any given Saturday.)

The entry fee was, um, $10 I think? But with that came 4 pints of beer (which was more than any of us could finish.) We grabbed a picnic table outside and enjoyed the nice fall weather with some friends.

6:00 The Collective Brewing Project

Fort Worth has a fun little sour brewery called The Collective Brewing Project. They make their beer with wild yeast (similar to Jester King for all of you Austin readers). We had a couple small tastes here before heading off to get some dinner.

7:00 Dinner at Rodeo Goat

When I asked y’all where to eat in Fort Worth, this is the burger place that everyone on instagram told us to try! (It’s also one of Cara’s favorites.) We ordered some food at Rodeo Goat for a casual Saturday night dinner.

The Cheese Fries Surprise did not disappoint!

8 pm: Live Music at Kimbell Art Museum

I forgot to take any pics… boo. But Fort Worth has SO many concerts on any given weekend! Cara is always telling me about all of the local Texas country artists that she gets to see year-round.

DAY 2

11 am: coffee at Craftwork Coffee

We were both feeling lazy, so we slept in and decided to avoid a big brunch and go get some coffee instead. We got a couple lattes and a snack, and brought laptops to do work for a few minutes to kick of our Sunday.

12:00 pm: lunch at BarTaco

Umm, loved this place! We need a bartaco in Austin! It’s a trendy, drop-in neighborhood taco restaurant with great margaritas and tasty tacos. I had the pork belly and chicken pastor. 

2:00 pm: shopping and walking

Again, not pictured… But we walked along the Trinity River and did a little shoe shopping on Sunday afternoon. Fort Worth has lots of fun shopping malls. We hung out around WestBend, which is where bartaco is located.

4:00 pm: happy hour drinks at Press Cafe

Another spot that sooo many of y’all told me to try….and another one that was already on Cara’s list for us to visit!

We sat on the outside patio for hours while we chatted and enjoyed snacks and drinks. We shared the Medi Dip and tried a variety of craft cocktail. This is a super fun spot!

6:00 pm: Fort Worth Stockyards

I must admit…the Stockyards are not my favorite part of Forth Worth. I tend to not love things that are super touristy and smell like horse poop. But….it had been years since I visited, so I wanted to at least stop by!

We walked around some of the shops, snapped some pics, saw lots of people riding horses, and ate some Tex Mex. I will say this, though: I love how the culture of Fort Worth isn’t just a gimmicky tourist trap; it’s genuinely the history that the city has been built on!

I had to drive back to Austin that night, so I said goodbye to Cara and left around 7 pm. Can’t wait until my next visit to Fort Worth!
